Since Windows 95 version Microsoft introduced the method of storing the information about the hardware and the software in the registry keys in the form of some numerical values. Before Windows 95, the information about the hardware components and the installed software were stored in files that had .INI extension. These files were stored randomly in the memory and got corrupted in the course of time and when major portion of the hard disk got occupied by user data it become difficult for the operating system to locate the relevant information.
